Mudassir Sheikha, CEO and co-founder of Careem, the region’s leading multi-service app, met with H.E. Amr Talaat, Egypt’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology, at the World Government Summit in Dubai.
Areas of discussion included Careem’s new “Next Gen” program which attracts and trains new university graduates to empower the next generation of technology leaders, and the growth of off-shoring services from Egypt. In partnership with the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) Careem hired over 70 engineers in the past year to help build Careem’s technology to serve the broader region. Mudassir and H.E. The Minister discussed expanding this cooperation with an aim to more than double the number of Careem engineering roles in Egypt in the next year.
Mudassir Sheikha, CEO and Co-founder of Careem, commented: “Beside the core operations of Careem’s rise-hailing business in Egypt, Egypt carries significant strategic importance as a regional service hub for Careem with the majority of our care team and a growing tech hub. We are excited to support future tech talent in Egypt through our university training program and continue building out our tech capabilities in one of our biggest markets.”
