Abdel Aziz: Gold Remains a Key Hedge Against Global Market Volatility

Gold prices in the Egyptian market witnessed notable movements during Thursday’s trading, August 13, 2026, as global markets continued to monitor developments in precious metals, US monetary policy expectations, the dollar’s performance and geopolitical risks.

The price of 21-karat gold stood at EGP 6,290 per gram for selling and EGP 6,240 for buying, while 24-karat gold reached EGP 7,188.57 for selling and EGP 7,131.43 for buying, according to the latest indicative market prices. The announced prices do not include workmanship fees.

Meanwhile, 18-karat gold recorded EGP 5,391.43 per gram for selling and EGP 5,348.57 for buying, while 14-karat gold stood at EGP 4,193.33 for selling and EGP 4,160 for buying.

The price of a gold pound reached around EGP 50,320, while the ounce stood at approximately EGP 223,565, and the price of one kilogram of gold reached around EGP 7,188,571, according to the indicative market prices, excluding workmanship fees.

Against this backdrop, Baher Abdel Aziz, economist, said gold continues to maintain its appeal as a hedging instrument amid the uncertainty affecting global markets, noting that the precious metal’s price movements are mainly driven by expectations for interest rates, the strength of the US dollar, and geopolitical and economic risks.

Abdel Aziz explained that expectations surrounding US monetary policy remain among the key drivers of the gold market. Lower interest rates, or a decline in expectations for rate hikes, reduce the opportunity cost of holding gold, as the precious metal does not generate periodic income.

He added that a weaker US dollar represents another supportive factor for gold prices, as it makes the precious metal less expensive for holders of other currencies, potentially boosting global demand.

The economist pointed out that movements in global gold prices are reflected in the Egyptian market, but local prices are not determined by international gold prices alone. They are also influenced by the exchange rate of the Egyptian pound against the US dollar, domestic demand, trading costs and market margins.

Abdel Aziz stressed that gold can serve as a hedge against inflation and market volatility, while emphasizing that it is not a risk-free investment. Gold prices may experience corrections if investor expectations regarding US interest rates change or if the dollar strengthens.

He added that gold prices could continue to experience volatility in the coming period, particularly as markets await upcoming US economic data and Federal Reserve decisions, alongside developments on the geopolitical front.

The economist also noted that investors should view gold as part of a diversified investment portfolio, rather than solely as a tool for short-term speculation. He explained that decisions regarding the timing of buying or selling require careful assessment of price movements and the economic factors affecting the precious metal.

Abdel Aziz concluded that continued global demand for gold, expectations surrounding US monetary policy and geopolitical tensions will remain among the key factors determining the metal’s price direction in the coming period, while exchange-rate movements and domestic demand will continue to play a central role in determining gold prices in the Egyptian market.

  • Master El Zenouki and Zinox El Zenouki Launch Discounts of Up to 15% Throughout November Zinox El Zenouki: Online Sales Surge 300% in October Amid Price Reduction Campaign Mahmoud El Zenouki: Discounts to Cover All Master and Zinox Products in the Final Week of November Zinox El Zenouki and Master El Zenouki, two cookware companies, have launched a series of promotional offers featuring discounts ranging from 10% to 15% throughout November, as part of a strategy to boost sales and make their products more accessible to a wider range of consumers during the annual shopping season. Mahmoud El Zenouki, CEO of both companies, said the promotional campaign features weekly discounts on selected product models, with the offers set to expand from November 26 to cover all available products and models. El Zenouki explained that the promotions began in the first week of November, with both companies closely monitoring consumer demand and sales performance. Positive results emerged from the first day of the campaign, with a noticeable increase in demand for their products among traders and retail outlets within major retail chains, alongside stronger online sales across both companies. He added that the expanded November promotions build on the strong results achieved by the promotional campaigns implemented in October, when both companies recorded their highest-ever monthly online sales, driven by increased consumer demand for online shopping and the discounts offered to customers. El Zenouki revealed that online sales surged 300% in October compared with September, coinciding with a promotional campaign offering discounts of 10%. He noted that these results encouraged both companies to expand their November offers throughout the entire month, rather than limiting them to a single week. He expects online sales in November to surpass the record levels achieved in October, supported by continued discounts, a wider variety of product models included in the promotions, and growing consumer interest in seasonal offers, particularly during the White Friday shopping period. El Zenouki also reported that online sales grew by approximately 36% during the first nine months of 2026, while both companies aim to increase their overall online sales growth rate to 50% by the end of the year. The target forms part of their strategy to strengthen e-commerce operations and capitalize on the results of their marketing and promotional campaigns. Regarding traditional retail channels, El Zenouki highlighted the positive results achieved through newly introduced in-store display solutions, which have improved product visibility and increased customer engagement. These improvements support the companies’ efforts to enhance product presentation at retail outlets while simultaneously stimulating sales through their online channels. On the product development front, El Zenouki revealed that the company is considering introducing new models next year under the “Master El Zenouki” brand, featuring non-stick cast aluminum cookware with ceramic and granite coatings. These products are available in a variety of color options, ranging from five to six colors per model, offering consumers a wider selection. The company is also exploring the introduction of new stainless steel cookware models under the “Zinox El Zenouki” brand. El Zenouki emphasized that both companies remain committed to boosting sales through expanded promotional campaigns, new product designs, and improved retail display solutions. By capitalizing on the seasonal discount period, the companies aim to strengthen sales across both e-commerce and traditional retail channels, supporting their growth targets for the end of 2026. About Zinox El Zenouki Zinox El Zenouki is a cookware brand operating under El Zenouki Group, an Egyptian industrial group established in 1964. The brand specializes in manufacturing stainless steel cookware and continues to develop its product portfolio, expand production capacity, and strengthen its presence in domestic and international markets. As part of its industrial expansion strategy, Zinox El Zenouki is currently developing its second manufacturing facility through a project to establish a new factory dedicated to producing stainless steel cutlery and tableware. The facility is intended to serve both the Egyptian market and export markets, supporting the company’s plans to expand its manufacturing operations and international presence. About Master El Zenouki Master El Zenouki, part of El Zenouki Group, specializes in manufacturing die-cast aluminum cookware with non-stick granite and ceramic coatings. The company has successfully expanded its manufacturing and export operations, producing approximately 750,000 pieces in 2025, while targeting an increase in annual production capacity to 1.1 million pieces in 2026. In recent years, Master El Zenouki has strengthened its international presence by entering new markets, including Kuwait, the United States, France, and Venezuela, while further consolidating its position in Saudi Arabia. These developments form part of a broader strategy to expand exports to Gulf countries and Eastern Europe and increase the availability of its products in the United States. The company’s growth strategy focuses on modernizing production lines, improving operational efficiency, and developing new cookware models that meet the needs of diverse consumer segments.
