Huawei, the world’s leading provider of information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure and smart devices, has announced the winners of the Huawei ICT National Competition 2022-2023. The longstanding competition falls under Huawei’s strategy to nurture Egypt’s ICT talent and equip younger generations with advanced ICT knowledge to support the creation of a skilled ICT workforce toward a digital economy.

More than 500 students from over 45 universities across Egypt competed for the national exam, with 8 groups of 24 students will be qualified for the next regional level. The regional winners will be invited to China to take part in Huawei ICT Global Competition 2023.

The winners who have been selected to participate at the regional level represent the universities of Cairo, Ain Shams, Mansoura, Helwan, Suez, Beni Suef, Port Said, Menoufia, Fayoum, Tanta, Sohag, Kafr El-Sheikh, Zagazig, El Shorouk Academy, the Arab Open University, the Canadian International College, and the Egyptian University for E-learning.

Jim Liu, CEO of Huawei Egypt, said, “The ICT sector plays a pivotal role as Egypt is now focused on moving towards a digital economy. Huawei is committed to contributing towards achieving Egypt’s ambitions through developing highly-skilled tech talents. Huawei ICT competition aims at equipping youth with essential advanced tech skills and exposing them to global standards of innovation and best practices, which in turn contribute to further evolving the ICT talent ecosystem and advancing Egypt’s digital economy.”

Asmaa Serageldin, Executive Director of Huawei Academy Egypt, said, “We are proud to partner with the Egyptian public and private universities to train engineering and computer science students on various cutting-edge technology disciplines to create a highly skilled and globally competitive ICT talent pool for Egypt. We provide the students participating in the competition specialized training and qualification courses conducted by Huawei experts, in cooperation with university professors and academics before competing at the Huawei ICT Competition Northern Africa that will take place at the end of February.”

Huawei ICT Competition is one of the many initiatives created by Huawei to support young talents in the ICT sector. The company plays an active role in nurturing youth leadership in the ICT sector, thus preparing new generations capable of driving digital transformation, in line with Egypt Vision 2030.

Since 2019, Huawei has established more than 80 academies for teaching communications and information technology, in more than 45 Egyptian universities. It succeeded in training more than 27,000 students, including 9,000 students who obtained Huawei international accredited certificates in areas such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and network. In addition, Huawei geared its efforts towards training and accrediting more than 950 university professors on Huawei’s modern technology. The company also helps these talents to obtain job opportunities through its annual Huawei HiRE employment fair, which serves as a link between companies operating in the telecommunications sector and graduates of Huawei training programs. As part of Huawei’s strategy, this fair aims to increase the number of trained talents and prepare them for the labor market to transform Egypt into a regional ICT hub and accelerate its digital transformation, in line with Egypt Vision 2030.
